Statement on the Seventh Meeting of the Central Committee

The Central Committee of the party held its seventh meeting at Party Headquarters in Kanifing on Friday, 30 January 2026, under the Chairmanship of Mr. Bakary Dabo, Secretary General and Party Leader.

In line with its statutory role and functions, as organ responsible for the direction and oversight of the life and work of the party, the Central Committee received and thoroughly reviewed the report submitted by the Chairman of the National Executive Secretariat [NES] outlining activities undertaken during the period under review.

In considering the activities of the various organs of the party, the Central Committee expressed satisfaction over the progress registered in the ongoing reorganisation and mobilisation programme at the constituency and regional levels. Because of the importance of this year as an election year, the meeting directed an early conclusion of this phase of the programme so that other activities can come on stream.

On administrative matters, the Central Committee approved the appointments to the vacant positions of Chairman of Research and Analysis Unit, Chairman of the Communications Cell and the President of the Women’s League and Chairman of the Women’s Executive Bureau.

As part of the outreach programme, the meeting was informed of talks with other opposition forces that wished to join GFA to bring about the required regime change this country deserves.  Similarly, but on a wider scale, the Committee took note of the party’s participation in coalition talks with other opposition political parties to form a strong coalition capable of winning the Presidential elections in December 2026.

On external relations, the Central Committee took note of the party’s continued participation in the activities of the African Liberal Network (ALN). In this regard, GFA hosted the Vice President for the West Africa Region in Banjul from 20 _22 January 2026. The visit provided an opportunity to explore the operational challenges faced by our party and to discuss the draft regional action programme for 2026 and 2027, which seeks to address some of the constraints identified.

At the national level, the meeting observed with great concern the continuing deterioration of living conditions of Gambians characterised by increased poverty and worsening cost-of-living crisis. The meeting holds the authorities responsible for this state of affairs because of their failure to institute policies and programmes that address the priority needs of the vast majority of Gambians. Once again, the Central Committee calls on the authorities to urgently institute concrete measures that would reverse these economic trends and bring about tangible improvements in the lives of Gambians.
